Medical Physicist & Researcher
I am the leading researcher of the “Artificial Intelligence in Radiation Oncology” group at the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Medical University of Vienna (MUV). After graduation from the Carl-von-Ossietzky University in Oldenburg, Germany, I obtained my PhD in medical physics at the Medical University of Vienna, Austria, where I currently work as a senior postdoctoral researcher. During my career I was a research fellow at the Oregon Health & Science University (Portland, OR), the Children's Cancer Hospital in Cairo, Egypt and recently at the University of Umeå, Sweden.
My research focuses on leveraging artificial intelligence to automate, accelerate, and enhance radiotherapy processes, in addition to developing data-driven tools to support radiotherapy. In my role as the head of the IT group I have overseen the development and deployment of workflow management solutions, while also setting up an extensive framework for gathering clinical, dosimetric, and patient-reported outcome data.
Over the past years I have supervised seven MSc thesises, co-supervised the PhD student Stefan Ecker in the FWF project EviGuide (KLI695) as well as Lukas Zimmermann in the FWF project MagicPRO (P30065). I have teaching experience, e.g. in the PhD "Medical Physics" and medicine curriculum at the Medical University of Vienna.
In no small part due to my position as Node Speaker for the Image-Guided-Therapy-and Theranostics Node of the Medical Imaging Cluster, I boast a robust network among multidisciplinary scientists at the Medical University of Vienna. My contributions extend beyond his department, evidenced by my proactive engagement in cross-institutional initiatives. Notably, I played a pivotal role in the establishment of the High-Performance-GPU Cluster and the strategic overhaul of the scientific software platform at the Medical University of Vienna.
